March 12:The district administration Doda on Saturday ordered the closure of all schools and sounded an alert in the district after the MeT department warned of heavy rains.
Due to landslides at several places, the 110-Km Batote – Kishtwar highway has also been closed for the vehicular traffic, aid a traffic police official.
The Batote-Kishtwar highway was blocked at half-a-dozen places due to landslides and shooting stones at Assar, Kora Pani, Dansal Gatsu, Prem Nagar and Kandini.
Chief Education Officer Doda Mohd Ashraf Rather Doda said that they have ordered the closure of schools today in view of weather advisory.
“The MeT department has predicted heavy rainfall and also issued an avalanche warning in the district on Saturday and Sunday. Holidays have been declared in schools so that children don’t face inconvenience,” he said.
“Examinations for the academic arrangements which were scheduled to be held on 12th and 13th of this month have also been postponed till further orders,” officer added.
The district administration has also appealed people not to venture out of homes in view of avalanche warning.
