The upcoming Amarnath Yatra which is scheduled to commence from July 2 is facing a major terror threat according to the inputs received by the security and intelligence agencies.

Highly placed sources said that there are inputs that the terrorists may target the Yatra in the same pattern in which Jammu-Srinagar national highway was targeted by them at Narsoo last year. “The terrorists can do overnight infiltration also and could even make their base in Jammu to attack the Yatra’ said Inspector General of Police (IG) Jammu Danish Rana.

The inputs have put the police and other security agencies in trouble as there less than one month is left in the commencement of Yatra and inputs which are coming are really worrisome. Sources further said that even the Jammu and Kashmir police have been informed regarding the presence of terrorists on launching pads awaiting opportunity to infiltrate and upcoming Amarnath Yatra could be their target.

Keeping in view the threat perceptions the anti infiltration grid along the International Border (IB) Jammu has been more strengthened while the security and intelligence agencies are working round the clock to collect the information regarding any threat perception to the Yatra which they are passing on to police. Also the videos of Burhan Muzaffar Wani a most wanted Hizbul Mujahideen commander of Kashmir assuring the Amarnath pilgrims of no-attacks from the ultras have raised several skeptics among the security agencies.

According to the sources repeated releasing of videos is may be intuition of his nefarious designs and is doing so to divert the attention. A high level meeting has also been conducted regarding the full proof security arrangements for the yatra. According to the IG Jammu, police is entirely ready to deal with any kind of untoward situation.

Also the entire root of the yatra is being reviewed by the security agencies keeping in mind the last year terrorist attack at Narsoo on Jammu-Srinagar national highway to avert its recurrence. According to the Jammu and Kashmir police the following two to three months are crucial for them from the security point of view and keeping this in mind the security arrangements are being heightened for the Yatra.
