Senior BJP leader pitches for rehabilitation of handicapped

Senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and member of Central Social Welfare Board Kuldeep Sharma urged upon the government to open rehabilitation and vocational training centres in every district of the state so that the handicap people can survive economically. Addressing a press conference today at Press Club Jammu, he alleged that handicapped people continue to be ignored by the government. He drew the attention of the State High Court’s on March 17, 2016 while considering the public litigation of handicapped.
He said that High Court after listening the litigation of Handicapped Association Akhnoor ordered to enhance the pension up to 1000 but the then state government of NC and Congress misguided the court and reported rupees 500 as a pension to handicap but the actual amount was just 400. He demanded two head offices in the state at regional level and framed Handicap Commission after court’s order, adding that after court’s order state government framed handicap commission but when members of the association met her days ago she told them that she had not any infrastructure or office yet. Sharma said that the association has some volunteers who are willing to donate 5 kanals land in Akhnoor for the construction of the Handicap Bhawan. He demanded 10 percent reservation in government jobs for the handicaps and other benefits. Among others present in the press conference included Susheel Kumar, Mahinder Kumar, Prof Sultan, Sham Lal, Mohamad, Sukhvinder Singh and Daljit Singh.
