Senior citizens cheated to tune of Rs 40,000 by telecaller

A senior citizen couple was cheated by unknown caller, who duped the couple to the tune of Rs 40,000, vide e-banking . Police said here today that complainant Devyani Gore (70), resident of Tarangan society, was alone at home. at around 1500 hourswhen she received a call from unknown number
The caller said that he was calling from HDFC bank stating ‘your ATM card with HDFC bank has been expired. To reactivate, he had asked her to give card number. She gave details of the card to the caller. After some time she recieved a message that an amount Rs 30,000 had been debited from her account and amount of Rs 9998 has been transfered from her husband account via PAYU money transfer.
Later, she received a call from another lady enquiring if she had carried out any transaction she replied in the negative and was informed that her cards were being blocked.
The lady said that the couple survived on the interest received from the Fixed deposits invested in the bank branch at Vartak Nagar. Now the couple is left high and dry as their ATM card has been blocked and they cannot transact on their card and are in a real soup.
The Vartak Nagar police in the city have registered offences under sections 420 of the IPC and section 66(d) of the IT Act and are on the look out of the caller the
police said.
