Sensible approach can avert road mishap

Road accident is most unwanted thing to happen to a road user, though they happen quite often. The most unfortunate thing is that we don’t learn from our mistakes on road. Most of the road users are quite well aware of the general rules and safety measures while using roads but it is only the laxity on part of road users, which cause accidents and crashes. Main cause of accidents and crashes are due to human errors.
It has been generally believed that more people in country like India die in road accidents rather than any disease and terrorist activities. Most of the victims of road mishaps included old age and youth, probably in the age group between-14 to 28. The situation in Jammu is even worst, but here the case is different as most of the accidents in Jammu are caused because of lackadaisical approach of the commuters. Recently in a road accident two young boys lost their lives as they were crushed by a truck, but we cannot blame the truck driver only, as youth in Jammu is also not following the rules and regulations while driving and take things quite easy.
In Jammu, there are multiple factors responsible for increased road mishaps and major among them included defiant approach of the drivers-they do not follow proper rules and regulations set by the concerned department. Another factor is dilapidated road condition, which invites peril anytime. Third factor included cat race of owing more vehicles.
Les us comprehend the trends being followed by parents in Jammu. We will see a teenager riding scootey and bikes, even in school uniform.
This is sure that they do not posses valid license, but still they are not barred by the parents. Such teenagers take machine (vehicle) forgranted and believe that they are master in riding these two wheelers, but the fact remained that in bragging about their irrelevant skills, the teenagers invite accidents. Moreover it has been seen that parents are becoming careless and are not concerned about activities of their children. They will not ask how and what their children do with two wheelers and this has become a trend that parents encourage children to take separate vehicle, which is not good for the children, as it is always suggested to take vehicle on the roads only when you have valid license.
The other factor, we talked about is road condition. The roads, including highways are in dilapidated condition. The recent accident in which two boys lost lives occurred at a place, which was dug. This is the condition of most of the roads across the city.
The concerned authorities must introspect and instead of leaving these roads deserted, they should start working on the patching of the pot holes, so that roads may not become reason of accidents. Another reason for increase in road mishaps is apathetic approach of the
drivers, who take roads as racing circuit and
ply vehicles at full speed, which often gets out of control.
Moreover, a sneak peak into the major reasons of accidents in Jammu included:
Bad Roads: In most of the cases, the riders have to face bad roads. The condition of the roads is pathetic, with potholes on the road, and not to mention the cliff, on the side, with no good protection or railing. A slip and no part of your body would be found.
Rules are to Break. Are they? The truck driver, which crushed the two young boys was over speeded. At a U pin curve, and no “HORN PLEASE”, along with a rule breaking driver, the inevitable has to happen. A concave mirror can be set up. a very cheap way, which has saved many lives.
The Thrill to Race: Many youngsters, are seen speeding on their new shiny bikes. Why? Is it worth it?
No facilities, or helpline: My friend lay there, helpless, along with his buddy. No help from anywhere. No emergency units. At least in the accident prone area, there should be some emergency care facilities for the victims.
Apathy : Saddest part is, nobody is willing to help, or even give a lift. Nobody wants to be stuck in the hum drum of cases and other paraphernalia related to road accidents. I feel, apathy has killed more people than accidents itself. But still, there are good people left, and I am grateful for that.
Use of Mobile Phones while driving: This has become a great menace. Most of the people are on call while driving thus they drive recklessly and accidents happen as most of the Indians now have mobile phones, this is the most potential reason.
Distractions could be outside or inside the vehicle. The major distraction now a days is talking on mobile phone while driving. Act of talking on phone occupies major portion of brain and the smaller part handles the driving skills. This division of brain hampers reaction time and ability of judgement. This becomes one of the reasons of crashes.
