Several govt schemes for upliftment of indigenous people available: GGF

Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K today said in Jammu and Kashmir there are several governmental schemes for the upliftment of indigenous people however, there is need of greater awareness to fully implement and take these schemes to the real stakeholders. In a function held here at Lawrence Public School to celebrate International Day of World’s Indigenous People by Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K under the leadership of its President Padamshri S P Varma. On the occasion, Varma said, “There are number of schemes for indigenous people at national level which helped to raise their standards of living, however, migration of these people because of disturbance pose a greater threat to their education, health and over all socio-economic development, therefore, indigenous people should be encouraged to live in their native places.”
While quoting UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon’s message “We will not achieve the Sustainable Development Goals if we fail to address the educational needs of indigenous peoples.” Varma said that right of indigenous peoples to education which is protected by Article 14 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and which is Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has not been fully realised, and it shouldbe addressed by the member states.
