Taking a lesson from tuition classes started by District Commissioner (DC) Jammu under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme; Director School Education (DSE) Jammu has also initiated summer tuitions scheme for the week students at various government schools in the region.
The scheme had become the need of hour for the government sectors schools after the holding of a pre-assessment test of about 450 students by the DC Jammu in which not even single student got passed. If sources are to be believed even DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh lamented over that highly disappointing result in which 10th class students even failed to answer first standard mathematical question i.e. 2+2.
Student from any government or private school can avail these free tuition facilities being provided by the DSE at about 25 government schools at different locations. Step has been taken for the improving the quality of education and better understanding of syllabus among the week students. Presently these summer tuitions are going on at about 11 government schools in Jammu at various locations which mainly included Parade, Akhnoor, Gandhi Nagar, Bahu Fort, Domana, Canal Road, and R.S Pura etc.
“A group of about 25 students each is being taught important subjects free of cost by the government teachers at 11 locations in the Jammu district for two to four hours under the summer tuitions which will last for a month” said Chief Education Officer Jammu J.S Sudan when contacted telephonically.
He also said that there is no criteria or conditions for joining these tuitions except the willingness of the student adding that “students irrespective of their school and locality can avail benefit of these tuitions which will help them in better understanding of their syllabus”.
Highly placed sources said that this initiative of summer tuitions was taken by the DSE after monitoring the same kind of initiative been taken under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Pado’ scheme by District Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh who has also served as Director School Education. Sources further that the Child Line Survey orchestrated by DC Jammu had make him felt to focus on “Beti Padhao” phase of the scheme as 5000 girls from poor background had wished to have tuitions for 10th, 12th and civil services.
Taking a remarkable step, DC Jammu managed teachers on flexible honorarium basis and started the admission process which however received a low response and 450 girl students joined the course which is going on at various government schools in different localities across the region.
Talking to Newspoint Bureau, Simrandeep Singh said that he has even prepared a calendar of the special visits, guest lectures and other activities for the girl students under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Pado’ scheme to give them better exposure which they don’t have.
He expressed that a change in the government education system is the need of hour keeping in view the present condition of the students especially in far flung and outskirts where every student gets passed up to 9th standard and collapsed in his her fist board exam i.e. of 10th standard. “I am trying my best and will leave no stone unturned so that they could pass their upcoming board examination of class tenth for which they at present are incapable” he added.
