SIT formed to probe corruption allegation in LAWDA in Kashmir

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was today formed by Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation to look into allegation of accumulation of disproportionate assets by the officials of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA).

“A three-member SIT under Deputy Superintendent Mushatq Ahmad Wani has been constituted to verify the allegation of accumulation of disproportionate assets by the officers/officials of LAWDA by misusing their official positions,” a spokesman of the organisation said.

He said the team will conduct the verification under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Vigilance Organisation Kashmir.

The organisation had registered a case on November 13 under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act regarding connivance of LAWDA officials in the raising of illegal structures in the prohibited areas around the famous water bodies here.

During the investigation, records of various alleged illegal structures were seized from the office of Vice-Chairman LAWDA Srinagar on November 14.
