SKUAST-TAJ delegation call on Amit Shah, demands central varsity status

A delegation of SKUAST- Teaching Association (SKUAST-TAJ) today called on national president BJP Amit Shah and submitted a memorandum regarding their genuine demand for up gradation of SKUAST- Jammu to Central Agricultural University of Jammu.
During interaction, general secretary Dr Vivek M Arya apprised the BJP national president that Jammu province include 10 districts and SKUAST-Jammu have limited staff and resources, which makes difficult to cater to the needs of farmers in far flung areas of Udhampur (Gool, Mahore, etc.), Doda/Bhaderwah (Chinta, Bhalessa etc.) and Bani (Dandi Kutu, Basohli, Billawar etc.), He added that there is no Central Agricultural University in the whole Northern India and Jammu division is the most suitable place for the establishment of the same as this region contains all the five agro-climatic zones wherein different sets of crops/cash crops, vegetables and fruits are gown during the year. Dr Vinod Gupta, executive member from Rajouri demanded to change the name of SKUAST-Jammu to Jammu Agricultural University (JAU) because the same name of two SAUs (SKUAST-J and SKUAST-K) is creating confusion among the masses. After giving a patient hearing to the delegation the BJP national president Amit Shah said that for the overall development of Jammu division and to address time to time demands of farming community of the region there must be one Central Agricultural University in the state. He assured the delegation that their genuine demand will be considered very soon and their memorandum will be forwarded to the Central Agricultural Ministry who will further take up the matter. Others who were present on the occasion included Union Minister of State/MoS in Prime Minister’s office Dr Jitender Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, state president BJP, Sat Sharma and state general secretary, Dr Narinder Singh and others.
