SKUAST-TAJ to remove API score for better performance of Varsity Teachers

SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) demands for the removal of Annual Performance Indicator/Index (API) for the appointment and promotion of teachers in the University system. In a prèss statement, Dr. Vikas Sharma, President of the Association informed that API score have done more harm than good to the education system of the country and particularly to farm/professional university where teachers are forced to work for increasing the API score for their promotions rather than for the stakeholders (students and farmers). “Removal of API score is urgent so that the meaningful contributions of the teachers/scientists to the society in general and stakeholders in particular are duly acknowledged and appropriately rewarded through appointments and promotions rather than the prevailing system where teachers are evaluated based on a set pattern to suit a set of scientists who work for increasing the API than those who are contributing in the field under extreme hardships for the betterment of the student /farming community.
While hailing Union HRD Minister, Samriti Irani’s statement at the inaugural ceremony of 27th Appreciation Course in Parliament at New Delhi to remove API for making appointments as well as promotions for teaching staff, Dr. Vivak M Arya, General Secretary of the association stressed for issuance of formal order in this regard and for speedy implementation of the order by the organizations like UGC, CSIR and ICAR.
