Class work in two Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) were today suspended in view of upward spiral in student protests in this summer capital during the last about two weeks.
Officials said the class work in SP Higher Secondary School (HSS) and MP HSS will remain suspended today as a precautionary measure. They said that other higher secondary institutions, besides colleges were open in the Valley though security forces have been deployed in strength outside these institutions to prevent any protests. However, majority of the higher secondary schools and colleges in the valley, particularly in Srinagar, witnessed an abysmally low student attendance. Meanwhile, three days after the government ordered suspension of social media till further orders to curtail protests and restore normalcy in Kashmir valley, cellular companies, including BSNL, are struggling to impose the gag on 22 banned networking sites, including Facebook and WhatsApp. Mobile internet services remain suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours in Kashmir since April 17, two day after security forces allegedly thrashed students, including girls, in Degree College Pulwama. The incident triggered massive protests by students across the valley, demanding action against the security forces. However, the protests further intensified as students’ alleged use of disproportionate force by security forces on them while they were protesting against April 15 incident.
