Suspected militants decamp with rifles from police post in Kulgam

Suspected militants on Sunday fled with four rifles from a police post in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The incident occurred in wee hours.

Zahoor Andrabi, police sources said that the suspected militants managed to enter the police post Adijan area of Kulgam district in the wee hours of Sunday and fled with four rifles after disarming the policemen.

“The suspected militants who entered in police post fled with two SLR’s, two insas rifles, five magazines and 150 rounds,” police sources said.

They added that the police personnel were disarmed from the police post were identified as Bashir Ahmad, selection grade constable, belt no. 281 KGM, Firdous Ahmad constable, belt no 942 KGM, Special Police Officer (SPO) Nisar Ahmad, belt no 13 KGM, Mushtaq Ahmad SPO, belt no 417 KGM.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Irshad Hussain said that three suspected militants reportedly managed to enter in the police post and fled with the weapons.

“The suspected militants managed to enter in the police post in the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday at around 3:00am where four police personnel were present,” Hussain said, adding that search operation has been launched to nab them.
