Tanta Accident victim succumbs to injuries, Protest at Kahara

An 18-year-old youth, who was injured in an accident on May 23, succumbed to his injuries today at Govt Medical College Jammu. The victim was traveling on rooftop of mini passenger vehicle when on a sharp curve, he lost his balance and fell on the road near Kahie village on Kahara – Tanta road in District Doda. The victim, identified as Arshad Ahmed Harga 18 S/O Mohd Hanief Harga was seriously injured after he fell from the speeding vehicle, Eyewitnesses took him to the District Hospital Doda from where he was airlifted to GMC Jammu. Arshad was a native of village Goila in Tehsil Kahara of District Doda.
The deceased teenager was pursuing Maulana course at Dara-ul-Aloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh and has recently came home for annual vocations. Arshad who was sitting on the edge of the rooftop of Tata Sumo with his luggage lost his balance on a curve and fell on the road. As per the eyewitnesses, Arshad was asked to sit on the rooftop by the driver with his bags on the pretext that his luggage can fell from the roof on sharp curves on hilly slope of Khara – Tanta road. Meanwhile villagers are up in arms against the civil Administration and Police and held a strong protest demonstration at Kahara after they came to know that the injured youth succumbed to his injuries at GMC Jammu. Protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the erring driver and stern action against traffic violators, who put the lives of the passengers on risk by overloading. “Police has given free hand to the drivers, who act like goons and they not only charge at exorbitant rates from poor Viallagers but also put their lives at risk by overloading on these dangerous roads,” alleged Chairman panchayat Goila Safdar Hussain Hashmi adding that, to neutralize the monopoly of private transporters, SRTC bus service should be immediately alloted for this area. ” Civil administration is equally responsible for the mishaps, this accident happened only due to the pathetic road condition,” said protesting Naib Sarpanch Goila Manzoor Ahmed Shan. “Substandard work done by the PMGSY on Kahara – Tanta road is putting dozens of lives of poor Villagers on risk daily and surprisingly, civil administration and police is doing nothing but acting like a mute spectator,” Naib Sarpanch added. Meanwhile police has registered a case and launched a manhunt for the absconding driver. “We have lodged an FIR 50/2016 and registered a case under section 279,336,337, 304 RPC at Police Station Gandoh. The vehicle bearing registration number JK06-5956 has been seized,” said SDPO Gandoh Bhushan Kumar Ganjo. ” The absconding driver has been reportedly apprehended by the locals at village JawalaPur, I have send a team from police station Gandoh to arrest the driver,” Officer added.
