Taxi plunges into gorge on Srinagar-Jammu highway; 2 dead, 9 hurt

Two passengers died and nine others were injured on Sunday in a road accident on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

An official said that a Tavera heading towards Srinagar from Jammu rolled down into a 60ft gorge near Shaitan Nallah at around 5 am today.

He said two passengers died on the spot and nine others were injured.

The deceased were identified as Nisha Rani, wife of Ajay Kumar R/o Kunjwani, aged 30/32 yrs; Kartik Singh s/o Ajay Kumar age 1-2 yrs, resident of Kunjwani.

The injured were identified as:

Ajay Kumar s/o Ram Dutta  (Driver)R/o Kunjwani.

Rakesh Kumar s/o Sat pal R/Grama Chak Pathankot.

Ramandeep s/o Sat pal R/o do.

Jasvinder Singh s/o Maan Singh R/o Essapur Sangroor Punjab.

Tirath Bandhan.

Laxmi w/o Vikram Singh.

Manisha D/o Vikram Singh.

Sakesh Sharma s/o Billawar Singh R/o Bantalab.

Vikram s/o Gopal R/o Nepal.

All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Banihal for treatment.
