Taylor Swift didn’t directly address her supposed curse on baseball stadiums she’s played as she performed at Toronto’s Rogers Centre Friday night as part of her 1989 World Tour.
Nor did she entirely ignore it either.
“Toronto — I’d like to try a little experiment. Are you up for it?” said Swift halfway into the third song of the night, Blank Space.
Then she screamed: “Blue Jays! Blue Jays!”and it was immediately recorded and sampled liberally throughout the rest of the song.
To backtrack, ESPN did some number-crunching and found that the Houston Astros, Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres have all fallen on hard times since Swift played their stadiums.
The Toronto Blue Jays open the playoffs Thursday at the Rogers Centre and Swift plays the venue again Saturday night.
Her second opening act, Aussie Vance Joy, also scored major points towards the end of his set wrapping up with his hit, Riptide, but not before donning a hat given him backstage.
“It’s a Blue Jays hat! I wanted to share my (good) thoughts for your team so I thought I’d put this on. This feels good!”
