Women seminar on Drug Menace held

Intensifying its campaign against menace of drug addiction, Team Jammu in collaboration with Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA) today organized a special seminar on “Role of Woman Fraternity to mobilize females to save youth from the yoke of drugs. Wife of a senior police officer of J&K, Dr Shabnam Mir, who represented PWWA was chief guest in the function which was presided over by Zorawar Singh Jamwal, chairman of Team Jammu. Besides, Dr Chand Trehan, eminent psychologist, Dr Rakesh Behl, Associate Professor, (GMC&H) and Dr Mohammad Muzafer Khan, Director, Police De-Addiction Center, PCR, Kashmir were the main speakers who drew light on ‘Dos and Donts’to check Drug abuse among youth. They also guided mothers, sisters and wives how to handle such cases, if detected in a family. Women from different fields of life including doctors, teachers, professionals, government employees, private entrepreneurs and house wives attended the function in huge number. Noted Dogri writer Thakur Randhir Singh Raipuria who was also present on the occasion presented the picture of Jammu through his satirical couplets in Dogri. Addressing the mega gathering of women, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that main aim of organizing today’s function was to involve woman folk in the war against drug menace because without their active involvement it was difficult rather impossible to take this fight to the logical conclusion. “You have to play very important role in saving our younger generation from this deadly menace because without your support we cannot make society free from drug addiction”, he urged the women and informed the gathering that Team Jammu has launched an aggressive campaign against drug addiction because this menace is taking lives of our younger generation. He appealed to the women to shoulder their responsibility of making Jammu free from the deadly drugs because certain authorities on their respective parts have failed to keep a check on this menace. Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that Team Jammu has already started a campaign against drug abuse in Jammu region to liberate youth from the yoke of this deadly menace. “We have already organized a number of anti-drug rallies across Jammu region besides holding seminars, symposiums and convocations to educate people about drugs”, Jamwal said and expressed satisfaction that response of the people is over-whelming and encouraging. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chand Trehan emphasized on the need of counseling of the youth involved in drug addiction. She also gave tips to women how to deal with youth who unfortunately become drug addicts. She advised parents to develop cordial relations with the children and involve them in every day today activity. Chief Guest, Dr Shabhnam Mir, while appreciating Team Jammu for taking the initiative to make society free from drug addiction, assured all cooperation from PWWA. Dr Rakesh Behl educated women about symptoms of drug addicts.

On the occasion, once an addicted youth from Mechincal Engineering background and another a mother of once an addicted son also came forward and narrated their tale of woes that were guided by Team Jammu to make a comeback in mainstream.
