Temple desecration: Now, govt says will revoke PSA on deranged man

Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said it will revoke the Public Safety Act slapped on a mentally deranged man who allegedly desecrated a temple in Jammu last week.

Much to the anger and discomfort of BJP lawmakers, Revenue minister and senior PDP leader Basharat Bukhari said that it was wrong if the PSA was slapped on a lunatic person.

“Will get it revoked; and will enquire as what has led to it,” Bukhari told the house, much to the anger of BJP’s R S Pathania.

“Being lunatic is no ground to revoke the PSA,” said Pathania. “The said youth has disturbed the atmosphere of J&K and be given tough punishment.”

“District Administration, Jammu has ordered detention of Yasir Alfaz S/O. Kher Din Rio Village Shiva, Tehsil Bhaderwah, District Doda under Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978, in connection with his involvement in the sacrilegious act at Aap Shamboo Temple in Janipur on 14-06-2016,” said an official spokesman on Wednesday.

The issue was raised by ruling PDP’s Shopian Lawmaker, Advocate Mohammad Yousuf Bhat.

He was supported by PDP’s Kokernag MLA, Ab Rahim Rather and Langate Lawmaker Engineer Rasheed.

Bhat asked the speaker how a mad person could be slapped with PSA.
