Thousands offer funeral in absentia for Amanullah Khan in Kashmir

Thousands of people offered funeral prayers in- absentia for JKLF founder Amanullah Khan in different parts of Kashmir particularly in Kupwara district.

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service said that hundreds of PC workers led by Sajjad Gani Lone held funeral prayers for the deceased leader at Sir Iqbal Convention centre Sanat Nagar here this afternoon.

Khan is father-in-law of Sajad Gani Lone, who is PC chairman and a minister in Mehbooba Mufti-led cabinet. Sajad was married to Khan’s daughter Asma Khan Lone in 2001.

Khan, 85, passed away in Rawalpindi on Tuesday after a protracted illness.

Lone, who was in New Delhi rushed back Srinagar this morning to attend the prayers organized by his party workers and family friends and relatives here.

Lone alongwith his children, Adnan and Emad attended the funeral prayers.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of people visited Lone’s residence to offer condolences with the bereaved family.

According to reports, similar prayers meetings were also held at Handwara, Kupwara, Zachaldara, Kralpora, Chogul, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kulgam and other areas of Valley.

Hundreds of people including PC workers participated in these gatherings.

Meanwhile, senior PC leader and MLA Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Khan.
