Because of the insensitivity of administration, roads in most of the hilly areas of the state have become death traps. Every year hundreds of lives are lost in road accidents in Chenab valley of Doda district .Today three killed, two injured in road accident in Manthla village of Bhadarwah a vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge on a sharp curve as the van was on its way from Bhadarwah to Manthala..Local villagers along with Police immediately shifted all the five passengers to Sub-District Hospital Bhadarwah, where doctors declared three of them as brought dead. The deceased have been identified as forest guard Des Raj (40) S/O Churu Ram R/O Cheeka Manthala, Om Kar S/O Roop Chand Baghat R/O Cheeka Manthala, Vejinder Kumar S/O Thakar Lal R/O Cheeka Manthala. The injured have been identified as Arun Kumar S/O Gori Dass and Rakesh Kumar S/O Jagjit Singh R/O Cheka Manthala. It is notable to mention here that nevertheless, fact of the matter is that so far nothing substantial has been done except ordering an inquiry into the accident and promising introduction of road safety schemes. Every time people are killed in road accidents, the administration announces high-sounding traffic regulations only to be forgotten until next accident. True, corruption in the traffic department is abetting these accidents but prime cause is the bad and narrow roads.Almost every road in the Chenab valley has become a killer road.
