Top LeT commander among two killed in Handwara Encounter: IGP

Top LeT commander Naseer ud Din Lone of Sopore was among two terrorists who were killed in an encounter at Ganipora Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that Naseer-u-din Lone was involved in killing of 3 CRPF troopers at Sopore on 18 April of this year and 3 CRPF jawans at Handwara on 04th May this year.

Official sources said that Naseer ud din was leading the group of terrorists who attacked security forces in Sopore and Handwara in which 06 CRPF troopers were killed. The other slain terrorist is believed to be from Pakistan, the officials said.

Earlier, a joint team Police, army’s 32 RR and CRPF launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in the area, there was firing upon the team from terrorists hiding in the area.

The fire was retaliated, triggering of an encounter, they added.
