Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which connects the valley with rest of the country, was disrupted after scores of protestors took to street in south Kashmir against alleged security force highhandedness. Shouting anti-forces and ‘pro-freedom’ slogans, scores of protestors hit the streets and blocked the national highway for about one hour at Bijbehara in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Alleging that security forces have been thrashing locals without any provocation on the highway,” the protestors demanded immediate action against the accused personnel.
“It has become a routine that security forces beat locals without any provocation. Today also locals were beaten when their security force convoy was passing on the highway,” the protestors alleged.It was only after senior civil and police official assured the protestors that the issue will be taken with the higher authorities, traffic was allowed to resume on the highway.
