Kargil, July 13
A Children’s Education Programme on “Disasters and Hazards Risks and Risk Reduction (Safety and Preparation)” was organized on a grand scale for the first time in Kargil by the Institute of Energy Research and Training (IERT), University of Jammu (JU) and the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR), University College London (UCL). The Programme was inaugurated by Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan, Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil (LAHDC) other dignitaries were present on the occasion was renowned Geologist of the Country Professor G M Bhat, University of Jammu (JU), Professor Peter Sammonds, University College London (IRDR-UCL), Professor Bindra Ban Thusu, University College London (UCL), Professor Sundeep Pandita University of Jammu (JU), Professor Renu Nanda University of Jammu, University of Jammu.
The occasion was also graced by the presence of Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, Kargil and Mohammad Ali Butto, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Kargil, Many visiting guest researchers including Dr Patty Kostkova, Dr. Jassica Field, Dr. Katarini Stavrianaki, from University College London and University of Jammu Dr. Kavita Suri and others were also present on the occasion.
The programme was participated by around 150 boys and girls participated from different schools of Kargil district, and the students were accompanied by 30 teachers from different participated school. A teaching kit containing a booklet, notepad, T-shirt and additional stationary items was also given to the students.
Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan, Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil (LAHDC) addressing the Visiting Dignitaries from University College London and University of Jammu, teachers & Students expressed hope that such Important and fruitful workshop for young generation would pay awareness among young mind of the country to tackle with natural disaster.
