Jammu Tawi, November 23
Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have arrested two militants, believed to be associated with Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba in separate incidents and recovered arms from their possession.
According to police sources, SOG today received information that a militant is hiding in a residential house in Bhatindi area of Jammu. Acting swiftly over the inputs, SOG raided the house of former Sarpanch and arrested one militant, who has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Malik, a resident of Tral. The SOG also recovered arms and ammunition from his possession. He is in police custody and is undergoing interrogation.
A senior police officer confirmed the reports, but evaded further questioning, saying that the arrested person is under interrogation and anything could be revealed after the completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, a police team in Pulwama in Kashmir also arrested a militant, believed to be associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba. He has been identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat of Awantipora.
Police sources said that on the basis of inputs, the security forces managed to arrest Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat. The police also recovered pistol and ammunition from his possession. He is assumed to be working for lashkar commander-Abu Dujana.
Police sources said that both the arrested militants are being questioned to ascertain their ‘modus-operandi’ and strategy to disturb harmony of the state.
