Two militants were killed in an encounter that erupted last night in a village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, army said today.
An official said that the army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off Harpura mohalla of Gasu village in the district last evening after specific inputs about the presence of militants.
“During the search operation, the militants hiding in a house tried to break the cordon by firing indiscriminately, trigerring a gunfight,” said the official.
Two militants, belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba, were killed in the firefight, he said.
One of the deceased has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Aloochibagh area of Kakapora in Pulwama district while the identity of other militant was yet to be ascertained.
Two AK-47rifles, four magazines and other war-like stores were recovered from the site of the encounter, said the official.
