Two years of Modi Govt empowered weaker sections: Dr Jitendra

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said that during two years of the Modi Government, several significant steps were taken to empower weaker sections of society and several path breaking measures were brought in for the welfare of women, children and farmers.
Speaking after being presented the Annual Report of “Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights” by its Chairperson Runumi Gogoi, Dr Jitendra Singh said, Government is committed to protection of child rights, particularly so, in peripheral and lesser developed States like Assam, Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. In the last two years, the Modi Government has not only placed Northeast high on priority of its agenda, but has also placed the interest and concern of the youth and children as its primary focus, he added.
He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conscious of the fact that in the next few years, India is destined to emerge as a world power and, youth and children are going to be major architects of this phenomenal rise. The welfare of the children and the end of violence, crime and abuse against children is, therefore, high priority of the present government, he added.
He observed that the State of Assam and also the other North-Eastern States are facing a crucial problem of constant youth exodus and to prevent that , appropriate conditions will have to be created for higher education and vocational avenues for youngsters. The children, particularly those in the high school or 10+2 group, are the main stakeholders and the entire attention will therefore have to be focused on them, he added.
He complemented Chairperson Runumi Gogoi and other members of the Assam State Commission on Protection of Child Rights for the research inputs provided by them and assured that the same will be placed before the new Assam government headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for further perusal.
