Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed Government to provide relief and compensation to the poor farmers who have been hit with flash floods last evening in Vijaypur following heavy rains.

The JKPCC general secretary Manjit Singh conducted tour of the flood affected villages in Vijaypur along the International Border where a bandh got damaged three years back during heavy rains and flash floods in Basntar-Devak rivers. The former minister met farmers who were affected with the flash floods and assured them that their demands would be projected before the concerned authorities.

In a statement, Manjit Singh, who is a senior Congress leader, said the administration has turned deaf ears towards the suffering of the farmers and doing nothing for them. “Yesterday heavy rains triggered flash flood in Devak-Basanter Rivers following which flood waters entered into the fields causing extensive damage,” said Manjit Singh. He said that the fodder kept for the cattles has also been damaged in the flash floods forcing farmers to face starvation like situation for themselves and their cattles.

“The previous MLA Vijaypur and sitting MLA Vijaypur, both are not concerned with the suffering of the poor people. Similarly, the administration has not been moved and they have not even visited the villages affected with floods,” he alleged. He said that it was a matter of concern for them that the administration and government has adopted anti-farmer’s policy.
