UPA’s flagship rural job scheme marvelous achievement: Mir

Celebrating the 10th successful year of MGNREGA, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president GA Mir has said that UPA’s flagship rural job scheme has proved as marvelous achievement.
Addressing a party function at Sumbal in Sonwari today, Mir said that MGNREGA is the best job guarantee scheme of UPA Govt. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is designed to provide job guarantee for at least 100 days in rural area of the country.
PCC chief said that through this scheme, all adult members, at least 18 years of age, of the families living in rural parts of the country are given non-skilled work. The Act has been formulated to decrease the poverty and ensure overall development of the country especially in far flung areas, he said.
Describing MGNREGA as one among the  major achievements of UPA Govt under the leadership of  Dr Manmmohan Singh and party president Sonia Gandhi, Mir  said that  MGNREGA  is the largest work guarantee programme  of UPA Govt with the main objective of  providing and guaranteeing 100 days of employment per year to rural people aiming to address causes of  severe poverty through  participation in developmental works that are undertaken, thereby, ensuring sustainable development at grass roots level, he said.
MGNREGA plays a significant role about strengthening the process of devolution of powers and gives an essential role to Panchayati Raj institutions in planning and implementing the developmental works through a common man at the grass roots level. It is a matter of pride for the poor and down trodden sections of the country who have been granted power to decide the developmental scenario of the areas they belong and also enabling them to earn their livelihood with honour and dignity, he added.
Describing this achievement as a marvelous by UPA Govt, PCC chief greeted entire Congress leadership for working hard to get the MGNREGA implemented in the entire country. He also hailed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s personal efforts, who has worked with great enthusiasm thereby, taking keen interest in implementing the Scheme in both letter and spirit, across the Country, he said.
Among others who spoke on the occasion included Moin-ul- Haq, secretary AICC, MLC Gulam Nabi Monga,  Mohd Anwar Bhat, Farooq Andrabi, MLA Usman Majeed, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Shameema Iqbal, Imtiyaz Parray and Shameema Sopori.
