Headmen of four villages on the Line of Control have been questioned as part of a probe into the terror attack on an Army camp in Uri where 18 soldiers were killed Sunday. The probe gaze has also turned to vacant prefabricated shelters near the LoC where the terrorists are suspected to have stayed briefly before the assault.
Residents and headmen of Sukhdar, Gohalan, Jabla and Salamabad near the LoC have been questioned. The area which houses the headquarters of the 12 Infantry Brigade is fortified and has a strong network of human intelligence assets.
The prefabricated shelters, installed for area residents whose homes were damaged in the 2005 earthquake, are also being given a hard look. These shelters, which were later abandoned by villagers and used as temporary shelters for cattle, are not very far from the LoC. It is suspected that the terrorists stayed in one such shelter after crossing the LoC.
A J&K government official said villagers who were questioned said some among them claimed to have seen some men in military uniformSaturday evening — the attack took place at dawn Sunday
