Vansh, Vir Sangram emerge champion in State Fencing

Vansh Mahajan in Sabre and Vir Sangram Singh in Epee emerged champions in men’s category in the 17th State Fencing Championship held under the banner of J&K Amateur Fencing Association at University of Jammu (JU), here on Thursday.

Shriya Gupta of Jammu District made it a double gold in under-17 and open Sabre event while Sahiban Singh of JU Fencing Club also won double gold in under-17 and under-20 Epee event thereby emerged strong in the lower age groups.

In the valedictory of the three-day event, Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), JU, Prof Keshav Sharma was Chief Guest, who presented medals to the winning fencers.

Registrar, JU, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam was Guest of Honour while Chief Sports Officer (CSO) and Divisional Sports Officer (DSO) of JKSSC, Ravi Singh as also Director Sports, JU, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba were Special Guests.

Others present were Vijay Sharma (Patron), Mohinder Sharma (General Secretary), Falail Singh (Senior Vice President) and M.M Sharma (Treasurer) Chotu Lal Sharma, Rachna Jamwal (Fencing coaches of JKSSC) and Bheesham Slathia Fencing (JU Coach). The technical panel included Anthony Matoo, Ajay Khartol, Tony Matto, Abdul Qadir, Shivani Hans, Mokshi Sharma, Pritam Slathia and Shreys Chib.

The Results:

Under-17 Girls: SABRE: Shriya Gupta, Jammu, Ist; Kritharthi Kowal, JKMS, 2nd; Malvi Arora, JKMS and Ananya Sharma, Jammu, joint 3rd.

Senior Boys: EPEE: Vir Sangram Singh, JU Club, Ist; Tariq Hussain, Reasi, 2nd; Sahiban Singh, Jammu and Sourabh Manhas, Jammu, joint 3rd. SABRE: Vansh Mahajan, Jammu, Ist; Mayank Sharma, Kathua, 2nd; Rudra Pratap, JKMS and Udeyveer Singh, Kathua, joint 3rd.
