Veteran Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, who was hospitalised at a Gurgaon hospital after developing heart and kidney problems and breathlessness, died on Tuesday.
“Mr Singhal died at 2.24pm at Medanta Medicity hospital, Gurgaon,” VHP leader Parveen Togadia was quoted as saying.
Singhal (89) was being kept on life-support systems in the intensive care unit of the hospital. A team of doctors headed by Sanjay Mittal, director of Clinical Cardiology and Research at Medanta, was treating Singhal.
Singhal was referred to the same hospital on October 20, but he was discharged after showing signs of improvement. He was again brought back on Friday night as his condition deteriorated.
BJP president Amit Shah, Union health minister JP Nadda, and BJP general secretary (organisation) Ramlal visited the hospital on Saturday to enquire about Singhal’s health.
