Violence in Jammu

Dear Editor,
The act of desecration at Aap Shambu temple in Roop Nagar sparked violence at Roop Nagar, Janipur and other places of the city. The situation became so tense that in protest, Jammu observed complete band on Wednesday while hue and cry of this incident also echoed in ongoing Legislative Assembly wherein BJP and Congress legislatures created ruckus.
The person involved in desecration of the temple is reported to be a lunatic, who came from Doda for treatment. The situation would not have gone volatile, had the police dealt the case cautiously and with sense of responsibility. The locals only turned violent on hearing that ASI of Police Station misbehaved the Pujari of the temple.
The state government also took all necessary steps to bring the situation under control. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, while inaugurating newly constructed additional block of the Examination Wing in Jammu University, cautioned against politics of religion, extremism and said that communal politics in Jammu could have equally disastrous effect as that of politics of separatism in Kashmir.
She has urged for not falling prey to the forces, which are trying to disturb peace in the state. Since PDP-BJP coalition government led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has come to power, separatist as well as anti national forces are trying their best to disturb peace and tarnish the image of this government by creating hurdle one after another.
Jammu is known for its secular credential and rarely witnessed communal disturbance. Though the accused is reported to be lunatic but till the time his mental case is not proved by high level medical expert, we cannot come to any conclusion. In case the medical authorities fail to find out his mental disease then a high level enquiry is needed to unearth the forces behind such type of incident. The main agenda of present dispensation to restore peace and development can be achieved if sinister design of anti national forces is defeated effectively.
