Why is Modi protecting Sonia? Kejriwal leads protest over chopper deal

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of deliberately going soft on Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi in the AgustaWestland scam, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal led a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday.

Kejriwal also accused the government of not pursuing the probe into the AgustaWestland scam seriously and said Delhi government will show how to probe such cases if the Centre hands over the Anti-Corruption Branch to it.

Kejriwal also dared the Bharatiya Janata Party to arrest Sonia Gandhi and other leaders of the party in connection with the Rs. 3,600 crore AgustaWestland chopper scam.

“It’s been two years that Modiji has been in power and he has failed to take any concrete action in the matter. The Italian government finished investigation into the company that gave bribe to Indian officials and the accused were sent behind bars. Our Prime Minister has not taken the matter ahead even an inch,” Kejriwal said at the rally.

Asserting that Sonia and Congress leader Ahmad Patel’s names showed up in the report by the Italian government among other names from the grand old party, Kejriwal said that despite all evidence present Modi does not have the guts to take action against the Congress Chief and have her grilled.

Accusing the Congress and the Prime Minister of being in cahoots, he alleged that in the 10 years that the UPA govt ruled, they managed to gather a lot of dirt on Modi, which is why he was tight lipped, as he knew that if Sonia was implicated, then his secrets would spill out too.

“One of the scam is his degrees. I’m not saying that you need to have high levels of education to become a Prime Minister. Someone does not need to be highly educated to be resourceful. We have no problem if he is 12th pass but he should at least admit to it as the nation will respect him more. But if he keeps lying and cheating the nation, the people will not tolerate it”, Kejriwal said.

On Friday Kejriwal said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress were “dharna parties” and that only the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) delivered on governance.

Referring to the protests by Congress and BJP leaders against each other over the AgustaWestland scam, Kejriwal tweeted: “BJP n Congress both r dharna parties. They do dharnas almost everyday. Today, BJP on dharna against itself. Only AAP delivers governance.”

Earlier in the day, scores of Congress supporters and senior leaders, including party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, protested against the BJP for accusing the grand old party leaders of corruption in the Rs.3,600-crore AgustaWestland deal for 12 helicopters.

Similarly, BJP supporters staged a demonstration against the Congress before the Gandhi statue in Parliament over the AgustaWestland scam.
