A middle-aged woman died and 16 other passengers were injured, 13 of them seriously, when a mini Bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a 150 ft deep gorge on Khellani-Goha road in District Doda on Wednesday morning.
Reports said that the vehicle, bearing registration number JK02AP-8479, on its way to Doda from Goha skidded and fell into the gorge near village Batroo – 6 Kms from NH1B, apparently after the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
All the 17 passengers injured in the accident were rescued by the locals and shifted to District Hospital Doda where doctors declared a woman dead on arrival.
“After first aid, six of the seriously injured were airlifted and seven were shifted by road to GMC Jammu for specialised treatment,” said SSP Doda Zahid Naseem Manhas.
“We have lodged an FIR at Police station Doda and registered a case under section 279,337,338, 304-A RPC and further investigation is going on,” he added.
The deceased has been identified as Shakela Begum W/O Mohd Iqbal R/o Gur Marmat.
The injured include Mumtaz Ahmed 25 S/o Abdul Aziz, Nahida Begum 19 w/o Mumtaz Ahmed both R Resident of Batote, Tariq Hussain 35 s/o Atta Mohd , Sajjad Ahmed 29 S/o Bashir Ahmed, Umar Farooq 18 S/o Mohd Sharief, Pawan Kumar 26 s/o Amar Nath, Amar Singh 40 S/o Dhiyan Singh, Aaqib 19 S/o Ashiq Hussain, Firdous Ahmed 25 s/o Mohd Ramzan, Asiya Begum 30 w/o Tariq Hussain, Farooq Ahmed 40 S/o Shamas Din, Mohd Imran 17 S/o Ashiq Hussain, Baby (20 Days) d/o Tariq Hussain all from Village Barri Marmat, Gohar Mushtaq 26 S/o Mushtaq Ahmed R/o Sadiwara, For Anantnag, Naseema Begum 30 w/o Shoket Ali and Yawar 5 S/o Shoket Ali R/o Beoli Doda.
