Following series of complaints against ministerial interference, besides reservations from the community members, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday revoked her earlier decision by withdrawing the portfolio of Tribal Affairs from PDP Minister Choudhary Zulfikar Ali.
Zulfikar will now only hold charge of CAPD ministry. He was allotted this portfolio late Monday night but on Tuesday morning GAD issued an order 317 of 2016 withdrawing the charge. Mehbooba Mufti, the order said, would hold this portfolio herself.
Meanwhile, talking to JK Newspoint, Vice-Chairman of Gujjat Bakerwal Development Advisory Board-Zaffar Khatanna said that the community had reservations with the new portfolio as this ministry was separately introduced by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with an intention to raise standard of living of the community, deprived of its share.
“Mufti Sahab introduced much needed ministry but later on some ministers started exploiting it and community funds went into personal pockets, due to which community lagged much behind,” Khatanna said and added in last ten months tenure of the PDP-BJP coalition, government failed to deliver as per expectations of community.
“Government in its previous tenure failed to deliver as per expectations of the community and same was brought under the notice of the Chief Minister, who took this decision about proper deliberation with her council of ministry,” Khatanna said and added earlier, the ministers largely interfered into the functioning of the community working, due to which role of advisory remained neglected.
When asked about other reasons behind withdrawing portfolio, Khatanna said “Since from the beginning Mehbooba ji was not willing to give away this portfolio to anyone else, but in hotchpotch the decision was made, which was retracted well on time,” he added that they were happy with both the decisions, but they welcomed later one.
He further claimed that Mehbooba expressed her wish to work for the welfare of the community. “She showed her eagerness to work for the upliftment of the community, for which her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed introduced separate ministry,” he said and added under her leadership the funds released for the community will be utilized in an accountable manner.
