60-year-old Baramulla man dies of COVID-19, J&K toll 189

A 60-year-old covid-19 patient from Baramulla district died at a hospital here on Tuesday, taking the fatality count due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 189.

A resident of Nadihal area of the north Kashmir district, the sexagenarian died at SKIMS Soura, nine days after he was admitted to the tertiary care hospital.

“His was a case of HTN, T2DM, CKD, ESRD, (bilateral community acquired pneumonia (CAP),” Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent of the hospital said. “He expired at around 4:00 a.m. today,” Professor Jan added.

Earlier, an elderly man suffered a fatal heart attack just after sampling at a COVID19 hospital.

A 65 year old man from Rawalpora area of Srinagar died soon after his sample was taken at Chest Diseases Hospital, Dr Saleem Tak, medical superintendent of the hospital said. He said the patient had been advised COVID19 test by someone and had voluntarily come to hospital for giving the sample around 2 pm on Monday.

“As soon as our healthcare worker took the sample, the patient collapsed,” he said adding that the patient had an underlying cardiac disease. “The cause of sudden death seemed to be a heart attack but when we tested his sample, it was positive for COVID19,” he said.

With his death, 172 people in Kashmir and 17 in Jammu have died so far due to the covid-19.

Srinagar district with 46 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (36), Kulgam (21), Shopian (16), Anantnag (14), Budgam (14), Jammu (10), Kupwara (11), Pulwama (6), Bandipora (3), Ganderbal (4) and Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
