PDP worried about J&K Assembly rules procedure delay.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its apprehension regarding the postponement in the issuance of the procedural rules for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

The party has announced its intention to present three bills, one of which pertains to the regularization of casual laborers.

In a statement on X, the PDP’s Youth wing remarked, “We would have gladly reviewed the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the J&K Assembly, but the Speaker has yet to make them available, even to the elected Members of the Legislative Assembly.”

In a subsequent tweet, the party reiterated its plan to introduce three bills in the Assembly. In addition to the bill concerning the regularization of casual laborers, the PDP also intends to propose legislation aimed at banning alcohol and granting land ownership to landless individuals.

The party has been particularly outspoken regarding the proposed alcohol ban. Party leader Iltija Mufti previously stated that alcohol and drugs are devastating lives and families in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for collective action to address the issue before it escalates further.

A bill introduced by PDP MLA Fayaz Ahmad Mir from Kupwara seeks to impose a comprehensive ban on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and production of alcoholic beverages in the region.

The PDP’s criticism regarding the delay in procedural rules follows a statement from Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, who expressed dissatisfaction with certain MLAs publicizing notices they submitted to the Legislative Assembly.

A communication issued by the Legislative Assembly indicated that the Speaker noted, “In accordance with parliamentary practice, established conventions, and the prevailing rules of this House, it is inappropriate to give undue publicity to notices related to questions, bills, resolutions, and other matters associated with the Business of the House.”
