Tourism is the Backbone of Jammu & Kashmir’s Economy, and We Are Committed to Its Growth: CM Omar Abdullah

Jammu, March 7: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, during his Budget speech in the Assembly today, emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency in pension management.

He stated that his administration has ensured complete transparency in handling pensions across the Union Territory. Additionally, he revealed that he had met with Union Ministers to seek higher grants for Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister also announced that additional funds had been allocated for the Jammu and Kashmir Police to strengthen law enforcement. Furthermore, he highlighted that the government is addressing public concerns through the JK Samadhan initiative, backed by public outreach programs.

“Our government is utilizing fully funded schemes to benefit the people,” Omar Abdullah said. He also noted efforts to expand horticulture zones and promote the dairy sector by setting up additional units, encouraging startups in these industries.

Recognizing tourism as the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, he assured that focused efforts are being made to boost the sector. The government aims to attract more tourists, which will generate employment opportunities. Plans are also in place to develop the tourism sector in Jammu, including bringing new animal species to the Jammu Zoo.

Additionally, he acknowledged waste management as a major challenge for tourism and assured that measures would be taken to tackle the issue. Several destinations, including Pir Kho, Ranjit Sagar Dam, and Shiv Khori, have been identified for tourism development.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure, boosting economic opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth across multiple sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
