The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla has initiated an inquiry into allegations of misconduct by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Kreeri involving a medical professional during an investigation into a deceased man’s case on Sunday.
SSP Gurinderpal Singh’s order notes that the allegations have caused significant concern among local medical staff. The inquiry reveals that on Sunday morning, Police Station Kreeri was informed that a deceased man’s body had been brought to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri by his relatives. The initial reports were unclear about whether the death was due to natural causes or suspicious circumstances. The police promptly began investigating to clarify the situation.
The preliminary investigation showed that while the deceased’s relatives took the body for final rites, the medical staff at SDH Kreeri were unable to definitively determine the cause of death. The police then conducted a detailed examination in the deceased’s village and concluded that the death was likely not suspicious, as the deceased had been under long-term care at the Soura Institute.
However, the order states that during the investigation, the SHO Kreeri allegedly used disrespectful language towards Dr. Jehangir Ahmad, a doctor at SDH Kreeri, causing distress among the medical community. This issue was reported to the SSP by several medical professionals who called for strict action.
In response, SSP Baramulla has tasked Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syed Yasir Qadri with a thorough inquiry into the incident. The ASP is to investigate the details, determine facts, and recommend disciplinary action and preventive measures to avoid future incidents. The findings and recommendations are expected to be submitted within three days.
