Shopian, January 11: The administration of the Shopian district in south Kashmir is holding its first-ever winter funfair at Dobijan, along the ancient Mughal Road, in an effort to highlight the area’s breathtaking splendour.
The two-day event, which began today, is named after the legendary love story of Heemal and Nagrai, popularized by British missionary J.H. Knowles in his book ‘Folk Tales of Kashmir‘.
A narrow road that winds over rocky hillsides leads to Dobijan, which is only 15 km from Shopian town. This charming location, which is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and tall pine trees, is well-known for its vast meadow and a hot spring that is thought to have healing qualities.
The funfair offers a range of events, such as kid-friendly competitions and ice sports. Visitors will also be drawn to an exhibition that features regional crafts and cuisine.
According to an administration official, careful planning has been done to guarantee the success of the event.
“This elaborate festival is intended to celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage as well as to highlight the area’s natural beauty,” the official stated.
