we explained that, Jammu and Kashmir administration is set to hold a significant cabinet meeting on February 20, 2025, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This will be the first cabinet meeting of the year, with a pre-set agenda focusing on several key decisions. Among the topics are the approval of dearness allowance (DA) installments for government employees and pensioners, amendments to the GST Act, and updates to the excise policy. Additionally, the government will consider a proposal to streamline recruitment processes by eliminating interviews for Level 6 posts.
The cabinet is also expected to discuss faculty restructuring at dental colleges in Srinagar and Jammu, aiming to align them with national standards. This involves transitioning to a three-tier faculty structure, including assistant professors, associate professors, and professors. The restructuring is seen as an essential step toward improving faculty conditions and academic quality.
Environmental and infrastructure projects are also on the agenda. Key items include the approval of a ₹60.5 crore project to manage legacy waste at a Srinagar dump site and initiatives to reduce pollution in the Jhelum and Banganga rivers under the National River Conservation Plan. Other proposals include the construction of a new emergency operation block at SMS Hospital in Srinagar and updates to financial allocations under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Fourteenth Finance Commission.
The meeting is anticipated to bring clarity and progress on these critical issues. With multiple administrative and environmental reforms on the table, this session could lay the groundwork for significant policy advancements in Jammu and Kashmir.
