the Jammu-Punjab-Srinagar gas pipeline project is progressing steadily, promising safer and direct gas connections to thousands of households across Jammu & Kashmir by 2026. Work on the Jammu-Punjab-Srinagar gas pipeline project, initiated over a decade ago during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government, is making steady progress. The pipeline, stretching 175 kilometers, has now reached Samba district in Jammu & Kashmir after crossing Kathua. This marks a significant milestone, with the project expected to be completed by its 2026 deadline.
Once operational, households in districts like Samba, Kathua, Jammu, Reasi, and Udhampur will receive domestic gas connections directly through pipelines, similar to water supply systems. This initiative aims to provide a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional LPG cylinders, reducing risks such as cylinder blasts and improving environmental safety.
The project, overseen by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, involves the installation of key infrastructure, including valves in areas like Hiranagar. Simultaneously, work on the Delhi-Katra Expressway near Samba is progressing alongside the pipeline project.
Deputy Commissioner Samba has confirmed that the project is on track, and residents will begin benefiting from domestic gas connections starting in 2026.
