After Srinagar, Rajouri emerges as second COVID hotspot of J&K

The ‘locked’ border district of Rajouri is emerging as the new COVID-19 hotspot of Jammu and Kashmir after Srinagar as 31 people were tested positive this afternoon.

Although lockdown was re-imposed in Rajouri on July 11 after a single-day highest spike of 51 cases, cases of COVID-19 continued to pour in from various parts of the district during the last week.

“As many as 31 people, including a Tehsildar and manager of a hotel, tested positive for COVID-19. Rest are ITBP-4, JKP-6, IRP-2, BSF-4, Health Official-3, from Red Zone Darhal & Sunderbani 1 each. Others are travellers & contact cases. Further details will be shared,” Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Thakur Sher Singh tweeted.

Most parts of the district, including Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri, Nowshera and Sunderbani sub-divisions have already been sealed due to surge in the positive cases.

Meanwhile, the authorities have registered FIR against an employee of the Health Department, who had run away to Poonch town after testing positive for the virus.

“FIR registered against the health official of Nowshera who didn’t cooperate after being tested positive. This has been done on a written complaint of Tehsildar. Person fled to Poonch & stayed there in a hotel. After being tracked continually, he was nabbed and sent to a quarantine centre,” ADC Rajouri tweeted.

The authorities have already sealed the Nowshera sub-district hospital after the same employee was tested positive on Tuesday evening.
