Five drug peddlers arrested in Sopore, Shopian: Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore and Shopian and recovered contraband or psychotropic substances from their possession.

“In Sopore, a police party headed by SHO PS Tarzoo under the supervision of SDPO Sopore at a checkpoint established at Seer Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK05E-0669 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Iqrar-ul-Islam resident of Amargarh and Owais Mushtaq Hakeem resident of Sopore,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

During checking, 216 Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody. Besides, vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized, police said.

Similarly in Shopian, a police party of PS Shopian under the supervision of SHO PS Shopian during routine patrolling at old Sumo Stand Shopian arrested three drug peddlers identified as Ab Hameed Sheikh son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh resident of Batapora Shopian, Sameer Ahmad Tak son of Mohammad Ashraf Tak resident of Arm Mohalla Shopian and Fahid Altaf Sheikh son of Mohd Altaf Sheikh resident of Teng Mohalla Shopian who were covertly selling contraband substances among the youth of district Shopian.

During checking, officers were able to recover 1.5 kg of Bhang powder, 110 grams of Charas powder, 30 grams of Charas and 06 grams of Heroin and a cash amount of 7500 rupees (proceeds of narcotic crime) from their possession. They have been shifted to a police station where they remain in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said cases under relevant sections of law stand registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighborhood.

“Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
