Katra resident demands permission to re-open Vaishno Devi Yatra on old track

Nearly five months after the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra was suspended as a precautionary measure amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Jammu and Kashmir administration announced that the Yatra would be resumed on August 16.

Welcoming the decision to resume the Vaishno Devi Yatra, the residents of Katra on Friday demanding the permission from the government to allow Vaishno Devi Yatra on old track to start their livelihood.

Talking to JK Newspoint, locals said that they (shopkeepers) are already suffering from a financial crisis due to Covid-19 disease and after the announcement by the government to resume the Yatra, they are hoping that with this employment will return

The locals requested the administration to begin the yatra on old track for the welfare of the local shopkeepers.

Meanwhile, the administration has set guidelines for the pilgrims visiting the shrine. A maximum of 500 pilgrims per day will be permitted in a graded manner from outside Jammu and Kashmir. Registration of pilgrims should be made only through online mode, in order to avoid any assembly of persons at current counters.
