Lockdown continues due to COVID-19 in Srinagar, elsewhere in valley

Shops and other business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads due to COVID-19 pandemic in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, where lockdown and restrictions are likely to end on Saturday evening and shrine and other worship places to reopen from August 16, the first time since March this year.

Besides COVID -19, additional security forces and police personnel have been deployed and more roads closed in the Srinagar city ahead of Independence Day (ID) celebrations tomorrow.

Business and other activities remained paralysed in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, where a large number of security forces remained deployed to strictly implement restrictions.

The main road at Gantaghar in the Lal Chowk area remained closed for any traffic movement. However, private vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, were seen plying on Moulana Azad Road. Very less number of private vehicles were seen on the road on Friday as compared to previous days.
