Security tightened in Jammu ahead of Independence Day

Authorities have beefed up security around vital installations as various arrangements were finalized to ensure peaceful celebration of Independence Day functions across Jammu region on Tuesday, officials said.

The arrangements were finalized at a series of meetings chaired by senior civil and police officials over the past week, also taking into account the situation along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) where ceasefire violations from across have become a routine over the past three months, the officials said.

In Jammu major security arrangements are in place. Passengers and vehicles are thoroughly checked before being allowed to enter the city. The makeshift check-posts have made the traffic move at snail’s pace after vehicles enter the city.

However, the general public will not allow celebrating the function at the main venue but they could watch it live on TV.

Talking to JK Newspoint, SSP Jammu, Shridhar Patel told, “all necessary precautions have been taken. We have plugged the borders to ensure that terrorists are prevented from infiltrating into our side of the border.”Night domination has been ensured through the ubiquitous presence of security forces. All vehicles entering the city from adjacent districts are thoroughly checked,” he said.
