79 travelers among 489 new COVID-19 cases; J&K tally now 18879

Jammu and Kashmir reported twelve more COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, taking their number to 333 as 489 new cases of the infection took the tally in the Union territory to 18,879.

Of the fresh cases, 134 are from Jammu region and 355 are in the Kashmir Valley, officials said.

“Twelve people, who were COVID-19 positive, have died over the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Of the 333 fatalities reported in the Union territory, 309 were from the Valley and 24 were from the Jammu region, the officials said.

There are now 7,661 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir, while 10,885 patients have recovered from the infection, they added. The new cases detected on Tuesday include 79 people who had returned to the Union territory recently.

The officials said Srinagar district in central Kashmir recorded the highest of 138 new positive cases, followed by 43 in Jammu.

In Kashmir Valley, Srinagar tops the list with 4273 cases followed by Baramulla with 1815, Kulgam 1475, Shopian 1412, Anantnag 1233, Pulwama 1296, Budgam 1183, Kupwara 1066, Bandipora 675, and Ganderbal 384.

In Jammu division, Jammu district has 940 cases, Rajouri 600, Ramban 525, Kathua 494, Udhampur 417, Samba 392, Doda 259, Poonch 192, Kishtwar 129 and Reasi 119.

With the new cases, the tally overall has risen to 18879—14812 in Kashmir and 4067 in Jammu.
