With Restrictions, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Today Opened For Traffic Movement

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today opened for traffic movement but with restrictions. Only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) are allowed to go from Jammu to Srinagar and only goods carrying heavy vehicles are allowed to go from Srinagar to Jammu. With the traffic congestion in the Ramban-Banihal stretch and long lines of vehicles on the Jammu – Srinagar Highway, the passengers have demanded that the J&K government should convert the National Highway into one way during the winter season so that travelers can reach their destination on time.

Also at many places on National Highway like Marog, Shalgidi, and Ramsu, the construction of the Highway is under process and the workers cover the Highway with mountain debris because of which many drivers and passengers face difficulty in choosing the areas. According to the Construction authorities if they don’t work in such a manner then the construction of the Ramban-Banihal stretch is nearly impossible. Many believe that if the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is converted into one way then the construction and traffic movement can take place simultaneously and passengers can reach their destinations easily and on time.

At the time of highway blockage, the administration and the locals provide basic amenities like blankets, heating appliances, and food to the passengers. The Divisional Commissioner visits all the passenger sheds to ensure that proper care is given to the passengers.

Talking about the weather, pleasant weather with bright sunlight today can be seen on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway
