Budgam, Apr 1: A no-confidence motion will be brought against the District Development Council (DDC) chairperson of Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan, on April 7. This will be the first such motion for the head of a third-tier Panchayati Raj system in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Deputy Commissioner of Budgam has scheduled a meeting for the council on April 7 to discuss the motion, which will take place at 11:30 am at the council office.
This development follows a directive from the High Court, instructing authorities to address the no-confidence motion against Khan.
In the 2024 Assembly elections, several DDC members, including Khan, contested the polls, but most of them were unsuccessful. A few, including the DDC chairperson from Baramulla, even forfeited their deposits. However, three DDC members—Irfan Hafiz Lone, Mehraj Malik, and Waheed-ur-Rehman Para—emerged victorious in the elections.
