SRINAGAR, May 14: In a significant step to enhance human resources in the rural sector, the Jammu and Kashmir government has appointed 122 Junior Assistants across UT, divisional, and district levels in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDD&PR) department, aiming to resolve a longstanding shortage of clerical staff that has affected field offices since 2021.
The appointments were made through the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) following a request from the Rural Development Department. The final selection list was recently released, concluding a lengthy recruitment process intended to fill key vacancies.
The distribution of posts includes 1 at the UT level, 2 each for the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, 55 in Jammu division districts, and 62 in Kashmir division districts. The recruitment focuses on bolstering clerical and executive staffing at the district-level Rural Development offices and Block Development Offices (BDOs).
Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Secretary of RDD&PR, stated that the recruitment marks a major milestone for the department, aimed at improving service delivery and rural governance. He noted that the new Junior Assistants will accelerate file processing, enhance public grievance redressal, support welfare scheme implementation, and ease the workload of BDOs, thereby boosting administrative efficiency.
Out of the 122 posts, 120 have been approved for immediate appointment, while 2 remain on hold pending further clearance. The selected candidates must submit their Personal Verification Roll (PVR) within 21 days to finalize their appointment.
This move follows the government’s recruitment of 1,395 Panchayat Secretaries last year and 1,889 Panchayat Accounts Assistants earlier, significantly reinforcing the RDD&PR workforce.
